If you’ve been around the Cloud Native Computing scene in Africa for a while, you might remember KCD Africa, a fully virtual, community-led event held in 2021 and again in 2022. Those early editions created space for conversations about Kubernetes, cloud-native tools, and open source collaboration across the continent. Now, that same energy is returning, but this time, we’re meeting in person.
Kubernetes Community Days (KCD) Nigeria is coming in 2025, and it’s collocated with OSCAFest, one of the biggest open source gatherings in the country. That’s two strong communities sharing one venue, and if you’re someone who cares about infrastructure, open source, or just learning in public, you’ll want to be in the room.
📍 Where: Landmark Centre, Water Corporation Drive, Annex, Lagos
📅 When: August 14 – 16, 2025 | 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (GMT+1)
What’s a KCD?
KCD stands for Kubernetes Community Days. They are regional, community-organized events that gather adopters and technologists from open source and cloud native communities for education, collaboration, and networking.
KCDs are supported by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). These events fuel Kubernetes and cloud native communities—igniting growth, sparking learning, and strengthening local connections with a unique regional flavor.
Each KCD is organized by local community members (not by CNCF staff), and that’s what makes it special. It’s community-led, hands-on, and built for the folks who actually use (or want to learn about) cloud-native tools.
From KCD Africa to KCD Nigeria
Back in 2021 and 2022, the event was known as KCD Africa—a pan-African initiative with organizers and attendees from across the continent. Both editions were held online, which made it accessible, especially during a time when travel and physical gatherings were still uncertain.
But a lot has changed since then. Communities have grown stronger. More Nigerian developers are exploring and building with cloud-native tools. Local meetups and contributor groups are forming. There’s a bigger appetite for connection, not just online, but in person. That’s where KCD Nigeria 2025 comes in: the first physical Kubernetes Community Day in the country and the first event under the “KCD Nigeria” banner.
What You Can Expect
The agenda hasn’t dropped yet, but if previous KCDs and OSCAs are anything to go by, here’s what you’ll likely see:
- Talks from engineers building and deploying with Kubernetes and cloud native technologies, not just theorizing about it
- Introductory sessions for those who are just getting started and cloud-native curious
- Hands-on workshops where you can learn by doing
- Conversations about contributing to open source and growing your career in this space
- A chance to meet folks you’ve probably seen online and maybe even join forces on a project or two
Whether you’re a beginner figuring out containers or someone deep into infra and tooling, there’ll be something for you.
Who’s Behind This?
Like most community events, KCD Nigeria is fully community-organized. It’s being led by contributors and cloud-native advocates in Nigeria, in partnership with the amazing team behind OSCAFest.
It’s being built by people who believe that the best way to grow a tech ecosystem is by sharing skills, stories, opportunities, and access.
Here are the folks leading this year’s effort:
- Anita Ihuman
- Edidiong Anny Asikpo
- Ileriayo Adebiyi
- Somtochi Onyekwere
- Uchechukwu Obasi
- Divine Akachukwu Odazie
- Emmanuel Bakare
In future editions, we anticipate that the list will grow as more people join the effort because events like this grow stronger when more voices and hands are involved.
Want to Get Involved?
There are plenty of ways to participate, no matter your level of experience:
- You can volunteer: Events like this run on community energy, and helping out is a great way to meet people.
- Your company can sponsor: If you’re part of a team or org that believes in growing the tech ecosystem in Nigeria, this is a solid place to show support.
- Register to attend: Your presence at the event is enough contribution. Attend, invite your friends to attend, ask questions, and connect with people.
Note: To attend KCD, you must register via the OSCAFEST 2025 website.
If this is your first community event, you’re welcome! And if you’ve been part of this space for a while, bring someone new along.
